My Current Skincare Routine

As you may know, I have very strict trying rules:
Thou must only try one new product at a time

Why? Because I wanna make sure I know what’s making me glow and what should go in the bin! So my current routine is sparse but ace, and I’ve only introduced new products gradually. It features 5 products — I swear I didn’t plan that — and it’s a quality over quantity approach. I also wait at least 4 weeks, if not more, to see if somethings working. One of the mistakes with skincare is that we often expect instant results – and don’t get me wrong, some products (particularly face masks) can show instant results. But often skincare takes a bit of time.

Here are the 5 products that make up my current skincare routine. I strongly recommend all these products – they’re all amazing:

1. Fresh Beauty Soy Face Cleanse

I’m working on a cleanser 5-TO-TRY and the Fresh Beauty Soy Face cleanser is one of the ones I’m trying. I LOVE it (spoiler alert: it will defs be in the cleanser 5-TO-TRY).

I use it everyday. It’s super gentle and smells oh-so-fresh. (Which probably is to be expected from a brand called ‘fresh’. I love that word: fresh. It makes you feel, well, fresh.)

I will say that you have to double cleanse if you’re wearing heavy duty products (long wear foundation, sunscreen etc), but to be honest, these days with all the ingredients they use to make products long lasting, ya kinda always need to double cleanse.

2. Summer Fridays Jetlag Mask

I’m so freakin’ obsessed with this mask (I can’t wait to try the Overtime and R+R — the R+R is totally my colour/life vibes).

The Jetlag Mask is so hydrating and soothing – think all the good nourishing words. I’ve been using this overnight, every second night (the nights that I don’t use my Luna and Good Genes). I always wake up with A+ skin.

Not only that, but I have dry skin and as a result of this routine, my dry skin has all but disappeared.

3. Sunday Riley Good Genes

This stuff smells gross (my boyfriend knows every time I have it on, even if I’m 10 feet away) but it’s working a treat.

Good Genes exfoliates your skin (it contains lactic acid) so you should NOT use it every night. I repeat: do not use it every night. It’s a 2-3 times a week thing (a glorious 2-3 times a week thing). I’ve been using it with the Luna Sleeping Night Oil and my skin tone at the moment is so even. My dry skin seems to be a thing of the past. I’m also working on an exfoliator 5-TO-TRY – stay tuned!

RULE: ONLY use active ingredients (like lactic acid in Good Genes) if you use SPF. Otherwise you’re just asking to age 50 years in 5 minutes. Active ingredients make your skin more susceptible to the sun, burning and ageing, so if you’re going to use them, you MUST be sun smart.

4.  Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil

Luna Sleeping Night Oil contains retinol and blue tansy. It’s essentially a super strong vitamin A that works to fight premature ageing and create a soft, smooth, firm and clear complexion. It’s also quite potent, but works a treat. I’ve been using it with Good Genes and my skin at the moment is so even and clear.

RULE (again): ONLY use retinol and active ingredients (like Luna and Good Genes) if you use SPF daily. Otherwise you’re just asking to age 50 years in 5 minutes. Vitamin A-based products make your skin more susceptible to the sun, burning and ageing, so if you’re going to use them, you MUST be sun smart.

 5. GO-TO Very Useful Face Cream

My favourite face cream. I use it on top of Luna/Good Genes before I go to bed, and every day before sunscreen.

I love all the Go-To products – that Zoe Foster Blake really knows what’s up – and while I try some other oils and cleansers that I also love, I haven’t found a face cream that I love as much as this one. I’m not sure if it’s the thickness, the smell or the peach tube, but it’s my #1.
